You never know where you might end up in life...case in point. Me!!!

When I was a little girl, I loved to build lego houses. I can still remember making laundry rooms complete with washer and dryer. This was back before they had girl Legos! I was house hacking with pirate ship parts before house hacking was a thing.

On Saturday mornings, one of my favorite shows to watch was a construction show. I remembered being so fascinated that the wood above a door was called a header. I was. weird kid...what can I say?

In my free time, I was crocheting, painting and trying to teach myself how to knit. Youtube wasn't a thing back then, so I tried to teach myself how to knit from four pictures in the Encyclopedia Britannica. I was unsuccessful to say the least!

I took every art class I could in high school and really loved exploring my creativity. I remember at one point contemplating a degree in medical illustration, because I loved math, science and art. Instead, I chose to enter college as a General Studies major, because I had a hard time choosing one specific major.

I bounced around from general studies to English to middle level education and finally to fashion design. I really thought this was where I was supposed to be and I absolutely adored all my foundational art classes plus the fashion design classes.

BUT!!!

One day, I woke up and realized, "Oh crap...I'm going to have to pay back these student loans and where exactly am I going to get a job in fashion design in Nebraska?" After playing around with the idea of graphic design, I made the prudent decision to go to nursing school. I really wanted to be done with college and I had always had an interest in science and helping people.

Not once did I entertain the idea of interior design. It just wasn't something I was exposed to growing up. I didn't understand how interior design could be a college major or even a career.

I was accepted into nursing school and as I made my way through the rigorous courses, I needed a stress relief. To help decompress my mind, I reached back to my childhood dream of being able to knit and taught myself how to knit socks. I also recovered a large sofa in a beautiful blue damask fabric. Along with sewing clothes, these projects kept my hands busy while helping me keep stress under control.

Photographic evidence of my fur coat that I made in nursing school...if only I would have taken a picture of the sofa!

After nursing school, my husband and I bought a house, which leads to part 2...
